When the Soul Loses Its Place to Rest

What happens when the mind, soul, and spirit all need healing, but each is waiting for the others to become strong enough to begin?

# When the Soul Loses Its Place to Rest

My soul has become disconnected from the one place where it had finally found peace—within another soul.

For a time, these two souls were mates, at rest with one another. They had humbled themselves, laid down their defenses, accepted each other's imperfections, and dared to believe they had found something that would last a lifetime.

There was peace in that belief. A quiet comfort in knowing that, after all the wandering, searching, and disappointments life had brought, they had finally found a place to rest.

But somewhere along the way, one spirit became disenchanted with the other.

For reasons I still do not fully understand, something changed. What once felt certain became uncertain. What once felt like home became a place I could no longer stay.

And perhaps the hardest part of it all is knowing that I am powerless to change it.

Now my soul wanders, restless and without refuge. It has no familiar place to lay down its burdens, no peace to settle into, no joy from which to draw its strength.

It knows only the sorrow of longing for a place where it once belonged.

My spirit, however, understands something my soul struggles to accept. Life does not stop simply because our hearts have been broken. The sun will rise, the days will pass, and the world will continue to move, whether we are ready to move with it or not.

And so my spirit knows it must go on.

But go on toward what?

The purpose that once gave it direction has faded. The dreams it once carried no longer have the same meaning. It has become disenchanted, not simply with love, but with life itself.

It continues because life demands it, not because it knows where it is going.

And that leaves my mind.

My mind, the last of the three still trying to make sense of it all.

It reasons with my soul. It encourages my spirit. It reminds them both that we have survived sorrow before, that we have known darkness and eventually found light.

It tells them that we still have one thing left.

**Faith.**

Faith that things will get better.

Faith that this, too, shall pass.

Faith that somewhere beyond this sorrow, there is still a place where peace and joy exist.

But even my mind is growing weary.

For how long can one carry the weight of three?

How long can the mind remain strong when the soul is grieving and the spirit has lost its will to dream?

There are moments when even reason grows quiet, when hope feels more like something I remember believing in than something I can actually feel.

Yet my mind continues to search.

It searches for meaning in what has happened, for understanding in what remains unanswered, and for some small reminder that life still holds something beautiful for me.

It knows that peace must exist somewhere beyond the place I lost.

That joy cannot belong to only one person, one relationship, or one chapter of my life.

And perhaps, somewhere deep within me, my soul and spirit know this too.

But knowing something and feeling it are two very different things.

Today, my soul still longs for what it lost. My spirit still struggles to find its purpose. And my mind is tired from trying to convince them both that there is still a life worth living beyond this pain.

I do not know when they will find harmony again.

I do not know when my soul will find rest, when my spirit will find purpose, or when my mind will finally be free of the burden of carrying them both.

But I have to believe that somewhere, somehow, they will find their way back to one another.

Not necessarily to the life I once knew.

Not necessarily to the soul in which I once found peace.

But perhaps to a peace that belongs to me.

A peace that cannot be taken away simply because someone else no longer chooses to stay.

**Until then, all I have is faith.**

And though even that faith grows weary at times, it is still here.

Perhaps that is enough for today.
